HRHN 23, April 2011: “Lessons from East Timor”. Guests: Pam Sexton (teacher, Watsonville/Aptos Adult School, & Positive Discipline Parent & Early Child Educator in the Watsonville “Together in the Park” Program) & Curt Gabrielson (founder & director of Watsonville Environmental Science Workshop, an after-school & Saturday program for children & teens). Both guests are long-time participants in the East Timor Solidarity Movement who have lived for perhaps four of the last ten years in East Timor, most recently with their two small children. Discussion focused on the importance of human rights thinking for East Timorese in their long struggle against a bloody Indonesian military occupation, their transition to independence & the first years of their self-government.
